
Winter Park defeated Hope Mills 8-5 on Thursday to advance to the championship game of the North Carolina Diamond Youth Baseball Division 1 AAA (Minors) championship game.
Winter Park, which avenged an 8-7 loss against Hope Mills on Wednesday, is scheduled to play Topsail on Friday at 6 p.m. at Clarkton DYB Complex with a berth in the DYB World Series on the line.
Winter Park defeated Topsail 10-1 on Sunday in the second round of the 12-team double elimination tournament.
Topsail beat Lumberton 11-4, Stanley 9-6 and Wilmington Supper Optimist 4-1 after the loss to earn its spot in the finals.
Winter Park drew a third-round by after beating Topsail, then beat Supper Optimist 10-6 before splitting a pair of games against Hope Mills.
The Diamond Youth Baseball Division 1 AAA (Minors) World Series is scheduled to begin August 2 in Bossier City, Louisiana. The North Carolina champion will play the Florida champion in the first round.
