As a part of the 2017-18 Budget, a Summer Intern Program was approved. Mayor Womble introduced to the Town of White Lake Board of Commissioners, Intern Cole Nye. Cole is completing his 8-week internship with the Town. He is the son of Eddie and Kitty Nye. He has been working with the department heads and doing research to develop a certification incentive program for each department.
Following the Town’s Code of Ordinances, the following officers were appointed: Mayor Pro Tempore – Commissioner Tom Riel; Administrative Services Director/Town Clerk/Finance Officer/Human Resources Officer – Brenda Clark; Chief of Police – Bruce Smith; Tax Collector – Ginger Stevens; Deputy Tax Collector – Kim Grey; Deputy Finance Officer – Amber Glisson; Water/Wastewater Superintendent/Zoning Inspector – Tim Frush; Assistant Zoning Inspector – Lee Cain; Fire Chief/Safety Officer – Dale Brennan; Budget Officer – Mayor Goldston Womble; and Town Attorney – Cliff Hester.
In other administrative matters, the Board approved Utility Releases ($464.01) and Tax Releases ($25.00) and awarded P&W Fence Company lift station fencing project; accepted the tax collector’s Full Settlement Report for FY2016/17 and appointed Account/Deputy Finance Officer Amber Glisson as the FEMA Designation Agent. The Board reappointed Hope Campbell and Harvey Iwerks to the Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustments for another 3-year term.
Eddie Madden, Consultant for the Multi-Use Path Project, presented the Board with 3 Engineering Firms for the project. He explained USDA requires a firm for the project. The Wooten Company was selected as the engineering firm for the project. Madden will present their proposal for scope of work and contract details at the next meeting.
Bradley Kinlaw, Director of Bladen County Emergency Management asked the Board to consider donating the 1986 International Equipment truck (declared surplus at the December 2016 meeting) to the Kelly Volunteer Fire Department as they need an additional equipment truck. The Board adopted a resolution to donate the truck to Kelly Fire Department.
Police Chief Bruce Smith indicated that the department has a 2004 Crown Victoria Cruiser that is no longer in use and asked the Board to declare it as surplus property and donate to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department to be used as a training vehicle for all local law enforcement officers in Bladen County. The Board adopted the resolution and authorized the donation to the Sheriff’s Department.
