The Town of White Lake Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment held a joint meeting with the Town Board of Commissioners Thursday evening in an informal round table discussion with Daisy Ivey, Town Administrator for Ocean Isle Beach.  Mrs. Ivey was invited to share some of the successes and failures that the small tourist town of Ocean Isle Beach has experienced over the past few years.    Mrs. Ivey was quick to point out that “Tourism is important to us.  We are no Myrtle Beach, but then again we don’t want to be.”

Mrs. Ivey shared pictures of numerous projects completed in the resort town with a population of 575 permanent residents.  Most of the projects were done in conjunction with groups such as the Property Owners Association of Ocean Isle, the Land Conservancy Group, Brunswick County groups and through various grant programs.  Because the town has worked to build a sense of community within the town, many volunteers participate and donate for the beautification of their town.   Landscaping, walkways, benches, sculptures, beach wheelchairs, picnic areas, playgrounds, gazebo, flagpole and many other projects have improved the look, function and flow of life in Ocean Isle Beach.  Some of their best known community events are the NC Oyster Festival, Camp OIB for kids, and Friday night concerts during the season.  Both Boards enjoyed her presentation and thanked her for sharing.

After the presentation a new Planning Board member was given the Oath of Office.  Tim Clifton will now serve on the Board as an alternate in-town member.  Ryan Godwin also resigned his position as Chair since he is moving to Elizabethtown.  New officers elected were Joy Warren, Chair and Deborah Warwick, Vice Chair.
