The Town of White Lake Board of Commissioners met in regular session Tuesday evening, September 13th. Mayor Womble announced that the Town of White Lake has been selected as a nominee for the 2016 Regional Community Health Awards sponsored by Southeastern Health for the Town’s extraordinary work in advancing the health of the community.  The awards program will be held on Tuesday, October 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the A.D. Lewis Auditorium at Robeson Community College.
Funds were appropriated during the 2016-17 Fiscal Year Budget to clean and seal the municipal parking lots.  Requests for Proposals were mailed to 5 contractors, with only 3 returned bids:  B&B Asphalt Services ($11,490), Smith and Smith Contractors, Inc ($14,544), and Sykes Paving, LLC ($14,560).  The Board awarded the contract to B&B Asphalt Services.
The White Lake Fire Department Funding Agreement and Automatic Aid Agreements were presented to the Board.  The annual agreements provide continuing fire protection with other County Fire Departments and authorize Bladen County to provide financial support for these services.  Services are paid for by collecting and distributing a fire service district tax.  The County agreed to pay the Town 1/12th of the approved annual appropriation amount ($32,170 or $2,680 x 12 months) and the Fire Department’s annual VIPER radio payment ($4,453).  The White Lake Fire District tax generates approximately $48,527 per year. The agreement was approved as presented.
In other administrative matters the Board approved Utility Releases ($4,000); adopted the 2016 Charge to Collect Taxes; awarded painting contract for Municipal buildings to Duncan’s Paint & Wallpaper, Inc (($26.830); appointed Mayor Womble as voting delegate and Administrative Services Director Brenda Clark as alternate voting delegate for the NCLM 2016 Annual Conference; approved the purchase of a 2017 Public Works utility vehicle from Performance Automotive ($29,745); and approved budget ordinances as presented.
Jennifer Song, State Demographer with the Office of State Budget and Management certified that the permanent resident population for White Lake is 850 as of July 1, 2015.
