WLWF (1)The Town of White Lake Board of Commissioners met in regular session Tuesday evening. The 37th Annual White Lake Water Festival will be held May 20 – 21, 2016. The parade will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 A.M.

In administrative matters Board approved Tax Releases ($27.52) , Utility Releases ($2,715.68); and adopted the Municipal Records Retention and Disposition Schedule Amendments as presented.

The Town’s Personnel Policy charges the Town Commissioners to establish procedures for determining performance levels and performance pay increases or other performance-related movement within the range. In accordance with Article III, The Pay Plan, Section 6. Performance Pay, upward movement within the established salary range for an employee is not automatic, but rather based upon specific performance-related criteria and funding for the Eligible Percentage Increases are not guaranteed, may vary from year to year depending on market adjustment amounts and budget availability, and are subject to annual review and appropriation by the Town Commissioners. Staff provided a proposed method to move employees across the salary range with proposed ratings for performance assessment and overall rating which was approved by the Board.

The Capital Project Ordinance Amendment was presented and approved in the amount of $116,902.00 to amend the CPO to reflect the cost to purchase and install 404 meters for Camp Clearwater’s Phase II and Phase III of the automatic individual read metering project. Funds will be used from the Water Fund Fund Balance for this project. Camp Clearwater will pay for the individual meters and the Town will install them.

A resolution (Item 3B) recognizing May 15 – 21, 2015 as National Police Week was presented and adopted.. Mayor Womble stated “It is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities and sacrifices of the Police Department. Police Chief Bruce Smith and his officers are to be commended for the splendid job they do in safeguarding life and property for the Town of White Lake.”

Brian Cox with Engineering Services most recent update on the water quality of White Lake was provided. Diane Lauristen, Ph.D, with Lake Waccamaw Alliance and Region 4 Director, of North American Lake Management Society notified staff that she is interested in developing a grant proposal for the Duke Energy Water Resources Fund administered by the NC Community foundation. Mayor Womble advised Ms. Lauristen that the Town was appreciative of her interest in the lake and offered the Town’s support and assistance in filing for the grant.

The NC League of Municipalities Town Hall Day will be held on Wednesday, June 8 in Raleigh. Mayor Womble stated that Town Hall Day is an opportunity for the Town to visit with its legislators while showing unity on the League’s member-driven advocacy goals. He encouraged Commissioners to attend the event.

The municipal complex will be closed Monday, May 30, 2016 in observance of Memorial Day. A public works employee will be on call to respond to any water/sewer emergencies.

The Board adjourned tonight’s meeting to a budget workshop to review and discuss the proposed budget. The budget meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at 5:30 p.m.
