Applications for Toys for Tots are being accepted beginning Wednesday morning at the Bladenboro Historical Building located at 818 S. Main Street, Bladenboro.

Beverly Rogers, a volunteer with Toys for Tots, said you can come to the Bladenboro Historical Building to complete applications beginning Wednesday, October, 25th, and again on Thursday, October 26th, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 noon. Applications will continue to be accepted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 12 noon through November 15th.

Rogers said you will need to bring two forms of identification for each child plus identification for yourself.

She said she has been a volunteer with Toys for Tots for some time. “I’ve been working with Toys for Tots in Columbus County for seven years,” said Rogers.

Robin Sanders, with whom Rogers volunteered in Columbus County, told her last year there was a great need for Toys for Tots in Bladen County. Rogers said that she contacted Carmen Jones, who is the Volunteer Coordinator for Toys for Tots, and Jones assisted Rogers in setting up the Toys for Tots program in Bladen County.

Rogers said last year, she was able to assist 350 children in having a brighter Christmas. This year, her goal is to assist even more children.

Rogers said her biggest surprise was finding out that many people didn’t know about Toys for Tots.

“Toys for Tots has been in existence for a number of years,” said Rogers.

Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks. It is operated by the Marine Corps Reserve and distributes toys to children whose families cannot afford them.
