CLINTON – West Bladen’s girls and Clinton’s boys won their respective meets Thursday in the opening Southeastern Athletic Conference track & field meet of the season. The Lady Knights piled up 139 points to finish ahead of 2nd place Midway’s 78 points. The Dark Horses racked up 194 points in the boys meet. West Bladen was second with 119 points.
East Bladen’s boys captured 3rd place with 67 points. The Lady Eagles were 5th in their meet with 58 points behind Fairmont’s 76 points and Red Springs with 60. St. Pauls did not compete in the meet.
Big point producers for Coach Stanley Williams’ Lady Knights were: junior Kiera Lewis who won the long jump and was 2nd in the 100 meters; junior Trinity VanEyken who won the 100 meter hurdles and placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles; freshman Tahela Bethea won the high jump; junior Adairus Jimenez was 2nd in the 3200 meters; sophomore Destyni Blackwell was 2nd in the 800 meters; senior Shanyla Hunter was 2nd in the long jump.
The West Bladen girls 4×100 and 4×800 meter relay teams won their events, and the Lady Knight 4×200 and 4×400 meter relay teams both earned 2nd place points.
East Bladen girls’ leaders were: senior Naihena Leach who was 2nd in the 400 and 4th in the long jump; senior Sabara McLean who was 2nd in the 200 meters and 4th in the 100; senior Reema Virden who was 2nd in the 1600 and 4th in the 800 meters; freshman Ariel Cromartie who was 3rd in both the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles.
Knight junior Travis Baxley won the boys’ triple jump and tied for 3rd in the 400 meters. Junior teammate Deyon McDonald was 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 110 meter hurdles. Sophomore Demon’tre Love finished 2nd in both the 1600 meters and the 3200 and was 3rd in the 800. Junior Messyah Whitted was 2nd in the long jump.
The West Bladen 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams both finished second.
The East Bladen 4×200 meter relay team won their event and the 4×800 relay team placed second. Eagle senior Jadon Pridgen finished 3rd in both the discus and the shot put.
The next SAC-7 meet will be held Thursday at St. Pauls.
