CERRO GORDO – Senior A. J. Smith and juniors Aniya McKoy and Tatianna McElveen all won 2 events each as East Bladen cruised past West Columbus and East Columbus in a 3-way meet on May 6, 2021.

 

The Eagle boys piled up 83 points in the boys meet to outscore host West Columbus (28 points) and East Columbus (18 points). The East Bladen girls racked up 51 points to finish ahead of West Columbus (12 points) and East Columbus (6 points).

 

A. J. Smith won the 1600 meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 17 seconds, and claimed victory in the 800 meter run in 2 minutes and 22 seconds.

 

Aniya McKoy won the 100 meter dash in 14.1 seconds and took 1st place in the 200 meters in 31.1 seconds. Tatianna McElveen hurled the discus 70 feet to win by a 23-foot margin. McElveen heaved the shot 25 feet, 3 inches to win that event.

The East Bladen relay teams won all 8 of their events. Winning times for the boys were: 4×100 meters (47.0); 4×800 (9:59); 4×400 (4:13); 4×200 (1:38). Lady Eagle girls winning relay times were: 4×100 meters (1:01); 4×800 (15:12); 4×400 (7:14); 4×200 (2:20).

 

Other boys event winners for East Bladen included: sophomore Malcolm Bolden, long jump (20 feet); Jacob Knoth, 3200 meter run (13:39); junior Timothy McLean 200 meter dash (24.1 seconds); Davondta Smith, 400 meter run (1 minute); senior Devin Bowen, discus, (96 feet, 3 inches).

 

In a 3-team event, 5 points are awarded for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 2 points for 3rd place and 1 point for 4th place.

 

Other boys scoring points included: freshman Yontee Dobson, 2nd in long jump (19 feet); senior Charles Brown, 3rd in 200 meters (25.1 seconds); freshman Jayden Dailey, 4th in 200 meters (26.0 seconds); McLean, 3rd in 100 meters (11.6 seconds); Bolden, 4th in 100 meters (11.8 seconds); sophomore Bailey Williams, 2nd in 400 meters (1 minute, 10seconds); Tyreon Graham, 3rd in 400 meters (1 minute 19 seconds); freshman Jair McElveen, 4th in 400 meters (1 minute 20 seconds).

 

Freshman Zachary Metz was 2nd in 800 meters (2 minute 23 seconds) and 3rd in 1600 meters (5 minutes 43 seconds). Knoth was 4th in 1600 meters (5 minutes 43.4 seconds), and Williams was 4th in 800 meters (2 minutes 53 seconds). Sophomore Zylique Lewis placed 2nd in the discus (80 feet) and 3rd in shot put (31 feet, 8 inches). Senior Jeremiah Jones was 4th in the shot put((30 feet, 4 inches).

 

Other girls scoring points were: senior De’Angela Moore, 2nd in discus (46 feet, 6 inches); junior Nacaela Melvin, 3rd in shot put (14 feet, 9 inches) and 3rd in discus (44 feet, 6 inches); Azariah Rhodie, 3rd in 200 meters (39.1 seconds); Shaquanna Kemp, 4th in 200 meters (41.5 seconds); freshman Tayla Jackson, 4th in 100 meters (16.4 seconds).

 

Others competing in the meet for the Eagles included: freshman Omarion Atkinson, Zavarion Palmer, senior Collin McKoy, sophomore Kenneth Armstrong, and freshman  Jacob Caulder.
