Trail Life USA Troop from Macedonia Baptist Church in Fayetteville learned while having fun this weekend at Jones Lake State Park. A fairly new organization, Trail Life USA is teaching boys character development, and Christian adventure outdoor leadership across the nation according to Greg Mills, Chartered Organization Representative from Macedonia.
The troop from Fayetteville has about 20 trail men from Kindergarten to 12th grade with college age men up to 25 years of age as mentors.
Pastor Steve Lloyd, Institutional Head of the troop from Macedonia, said, “It’s not a program of the church, but the church sponsors the troop. It’s like scouting but, it’s faith based.”
He continued explaining the organization by saying, “It’s open to all boys but the leaders have to commit to a certain faith and values.”
Greg gave some more information. “The highest rank is a Freedom Award. It rewards an internship in a course of study,” Greg said. According to the two leaders, there are Trail Life USA Troops in Lumberton and Fayetteville. For more information about the non-profit visit www.traillifeusa.com.
