The Trinity Methodist Men’s Club provide an annual Oyster Roast in January. The event is extremely popular offering boiled shrimp, clam chowder, hushpuppies and of course the ever coveted roasted oysters.
The proceeds of the fundraiser are donated to the Men’s Projects. According to club member, Robin Summerlin, this year a $2,500 donation was made to the Empty Stocking Fund, a local charity helping children in need at Christmas time.
Summerlin and fellow club member, Lin Weeks also presented a $600 donation check from the club’s proceeds to Boy Scouts’ Leader Mark Gillespie with Troop 600 of Elizabethtown.
“Thank you very much,” Gillespie told the two, “this will help a lot.”
The Trinity United Methodist Church Oyster Roast this year was the best one yet, according to Summerlin and Weeks.
Weeks said the boys helped this year and did a great job being trained in hushpuppies. It is always a lot of fun, he added.
The event will continue next year around the second week in January, according to Summerlin. The church is located at 901 W. Broad Street in Elizabethtown.
