If you have traveled along U.S. 701 through Elizabethtown you’ve likely seen David Troy at the traffic light where the highway intersects Mill Street.

He’ll be greeting folks from his spot along the walkway near the Tiger Mart convenience store with a huge smile, a big wave and, often times, blowing his whistle as the light turns green.

Saturday, Troy was presented a reflector vest courtesy of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and now is considered an Official Community Traffic Volunteer. The vest even has his name on it.
