It was a different kind of race Saturday night at Dublin Motor Speedway. Officials raced against an oncoming thunderstorm in an effort to complete the show.

While the track won at the start, Mother Nature, as she always does, eventually won.

Speeding through the first three races in record time by not having post-race driver interviews and limiting pace laps, Robbie Turner, Greg Bass and Ryan Gilbert were able to pick up victories. Early in the Late Model race, the rain, thunder and lightning arrived, forcing an end to the show. The U-Car race never started.

Only 23 cars qualified for Saturday’s five races, although a few cars showed after qualifying.

Dublin will host the Southeast Dirt Modified Series next Saturday (July 23), paying $3,000 to the winner.

SUPER STREET

The featured race went off without nine-time winner Benji Thompson. His car broke a timing chain during practice and he couldn’t make the field.

As for the race, Bass started on the pole and beat Greg Cain to the first turn in leading to the finish of the 20-lap race. It was Bass’ second win of the season at Dublin and he earned $750 for the featured win.

LATE MODEL

Brian Strickland was leading Daulton Wilson in a bumper-to-bumper battle coming out of the fourh quarter on lap six when the storm arrived.

OPEN WHEEL MODIFIEDS

Turner started on the outside pole in the 15-lap race and held off Andy Boahn for his first Open Wheel win. Turner was Dublin’s Late Model division champion in 2015.

PURE STOCK

Gilbert started from the inside of the second row, but had moved into second place by the second lap before a light rain delayed the race. Gilbert gained the lead on the restart and pulled away for his seventh win this season at Dublin. He beat runner-up Stephen Erskine by about seven seconds.
