Two area lakes were recognized recently by Country Living magazine in their article titled, “25 Small Lake Towns We’re Seriously Obsessed With.” The two lakes which are featured in the article are Lake Waccamaw and White Lake.

“I think its a huge compliment for our community to be chosen to be on that list of 25 across the United States. Not only just us, but our sister lake, Lake Waccamaw. I think that also is a compliment to the state of North Carolina to have two lakes chosen on a list of 25,” said Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dawn Maynard.

It’s easy to see why they were chosen to be featured. For a family-friendly vacation, White Lake is a natural choice. White Lake is a natural, spring-fed lake known for its crystal clear waters and white sandy bottom, according to Wikipedia. The lake is a great place to swim, wakeboard, water ski, or just sit back and relax on the shore. There is plenty to see and do as well.

White Lake has a long storied history with its first commercial operation opening in 1901.

Lake Waccamaw is located in Columbus County and measures roughly 5 miles by 3.5 miles.  It holds the distinction of being one of the largest natural Carolina Bay Lakes.
