On Thursday, Nov. 10, Elizabethtown Police Department Patrolman Melanie Avant was dispatched to Leinwand’s Clothing Store in reference to subjects attempting to pass a fraudulent check. Patrolman Avant along with Sergeants Jeffrey Guyton and Willie Thompson responded to the scene.
The reporting parties had advised that one of the suspects had fled the scene on foot. Patrolman Avant made contact with that suspect, Curtis Shawn Jeter, and was able to detain him until he could be positively identified by witnesses on the scene.
Sergeant Thompson was able to make contact with the other suspect, Stephanie Charnee Brown, who was still at the scene and detain her until the investigation could be conducted.
During the course of his investigation Sergeant Guyton was able to establish probable cause to effect the arrest of both Stephanie Charnee Brown and Curtis Shawn Jeter.
Brown was charged with Forgery & Uttering of an Endorsement and Resisting Arrest.
Jeter was charged with Larceny from the Person, Obstructing Justice, and Disorderly Conduct.
Both Suspects were processed and held in Bladen County Jail under a secure bond.
