Bladen County Sheriff James A. McVicker said members of the Narcotics Unit made arrests on Sunday of two individuals for the sale of controlled substances to undercover officers.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit completed an investigation into the distribution of Controlled Substances in the East Broad Street area of Elizabethtown.

During the investigation, it was determined by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit that the below listed individual was responsible for distributing controlled substances.

This investigation originated from citizen complaints which prompted Narcotics Agents to the area of 1710 East Broad Street, Elizabethtown, NC.  Agents conducted undercover purchases from the defendant in this investigation where prescription medication was purchased.

At the conclusion of this investigation, on December 2, 2018, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and Elizabethtown Police Department served arrest warrants on the defendant.  The defendant in this investigation was arrested and processed at the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

Arrested was Michael Anthony Smith Jr.”TJ”, age 29, of 1710 E. Broad Street, Elizabethtown. His bond was set at $78,000.00.  Smith was charged with 1 count of Sell/Deliver Schedule III Controlled Substances, 1 count of Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Schedule III Controlled Substances, 1 count of Maintaining a Dwelling for the Purpose of Keeping/Selling Controlled Substances, 1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 1 count of Open Container, 1 count of Driving While License Revoked, 1 count of Resist/Delay/Obstruct.

Also, over the weekend, an investigation into the distribution of controlled substances in the Booker T. Washington area of Clarkton was conducted. Agents conducted undercover purchases near 507 Booker T. Washington Road, Clarkton from the defendant in this investigation where cocaine was purchased.

At the conclusion of this investigation, on December 2, 2018, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office served arrest warrants on the defendant.  The defendant in this investigation was arrested and processed at the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

Arrested was Tramel Lamar Howell, 23, of 46 P&W Drive, Bladenboro, NC. His bond was set at $500,000.00. He was charged with 1 count of Sell/Deliver Cocaine, 1 count of Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Cocaine.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit has worked with North Carolina Probation and Parole on this case and additional charges are anticipated.
