Two teenagers, Zachary Coger and Tevin Baldwin pled guilty in Bladen County Superior Court yesterday in connection with a shooting that occurred on May 4, 2014 in Elizabethtown, NC. On that date, four teenagers were attacked by Coger and Baldwin as they were leaving a house party. Coger shot into the front passenger window of the vehicle occupied by the four teens, hitting the driver in the leg and spraying glass into the front passenger’s face. Coger fired additional shots into the vehicle as it sped off. Baldwin also fired into the trunk of the vehicle as it drove away. The victims were able to drive to Bladen County Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
Coger, 19, pled guilty to one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and four counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. He was sentenced to 73-100 months in the Department of Adult Corrections followed by four suspended sentences of 25-42 months.
Baldwin, also 19, pled guilty to two counts of Attempted Discharge of a Barreled Weapon into an Occupied Vehicle in Bladen County Superior Court. He was sentenced to two consecutive suspended sentences of 31-50 months. He will also serve a six month active sentence at the outset.
Investigator Jeff Tyler, with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office worked diligently to procure all the necessary evidence for a successful prosecution of this case. The case was handled by Detective Tyler and Assistant District Attorney Glenn Emery.
