The filing period for municipal elections in Bladen County is underway and two candidates have added their names to the election for Bladenboro Town Commissioner. They are incumbents Billy Ray Benson and Jeff Atkinson.

According to the Candidate List made available by the Bladen County Board of Elections on Wednesday evening, candidates have filed seeking elected offices in the towns of Bladenboro, Elizabethtown, Clarkton and White Lake.

Candidates have yet to file for elected office in Tar Heel, Dublin and East Arcadia.

The filing period will close at noon on Friday, July 21. The cost to file for election is $5 and can be paid by check or money order. Candidates wishing to seek elected office must file their notice of candidacy with the Bladen County Board of Elections in order to have their name included on the ballot and you must be 21 years old.

Voters must be registered 25 days before an election to vote on Election Day. The regular voter registration deadline for September elections is Aug. 18. For October elections, the deadline is Sept. 15. For November elections, the registration deadline is Oct. 13. Voters may also register and vote during the early voting period using “same-day registration” in places where absentee voting is authorized.
