A two car collision killed 2 Friday afternoon on Tar Heel Road about seven miles north of Lumberton.
According to NC Highway Patrol reports, William D. Roeder, 42 of Tar Heel, was traveling north on Tar Heel Road and was attempting to pass a vehicle, and struck a 2011 Toyota head-on killing two occupants.
The accident occurred at 5:43 p.m.
Roeder was reportedly traveling about 70 mph when the wreck occurred.
Annette Johnson of Marion, South Carolina, the driver of the Toyota and a front seat passenger, Angela Hill 49 of Lee Circle in Lumberton were pronounced dead at the scene.
Roeder and a third passenger in the Toyota were airlifted to New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington. There condition was unknown.
The report indicated charges are pending.
