WHITEVILLE – West Bladen senior Tyre Boykin has been named the Three Rivers Conference boys basketball Player of the Year. Joining Boykin on the All-Conference team is East Bladen junior center Javant McDowell.

“Tyre had an unbelievable season in what was a trying one in regards to wins and losses,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “He was an unbelievable leader and always kept the team first in all that he did.”

Boykin (pictured, above) scored an average of 24 or more points in 20 games this season including his final 14 games in a row. The UMKC signee averaged 26.1 points per game and scored all 41 Knight points in a game against East Bladen. He poured in 35 points against East Columbus and 32 in a win over Clinton.

“I think it says a lot about him as a player that he was on the last place team, yet was the unanimous pick as the player of the year by the league’s coaches,” said Pait.

McDowell (pictured, below) averaged 10 points per game and dominated inside play for the Eagles with his rebounding and shot-blocking. He scored in double figures in 12 games with a season-high of 18 points against Red Springs.

*Our orginal publication had Boykin’s average at 19, which was incorrect. Boykin’s average was 26.1 in league play and 24.4 overall.
