Krissy Vick with the University of North Carolina Wilmington announced upcoming performances and an annual event.
  • The UNCW Department of Theater will present “The Christians” on Nov. 11-14 and 18-21 in the Mainstage Theatre in the Cultural Arts Building.  Tickets are available for in person performances and livestreamed performances.

According to uncw.edu, all performances will be livestreamed on Broadway on Demand (BOD) in addition to the Face to Face performances.

The performance is described on the website as, “Twenty years ago, Pastor Paul’s church was nothing more than a modest storefront. Now he presides over a congregation of thousands, with classrooms for Sunday School, a coffee shop in the lobby, and a baptismal font as big as a swimming pool. Today should be a day of celebration. But Paul is about to preach a sermon that will shake the foundations of his church’s belief. Backed by a gospel choir, The Christians is both epic and unexpectedly intimate, an unflinching look at faith in America — and its power to unite or divide.”

Ticket Prices (all ticket prices include sales tax.)

According to uncw.edu, the event is inspired by the NEA Big Read selection of Sandra Cisneros’s The House on Mango Street, and by the invitation of Cisneros and Nikole Hannah-Jones as speakers for UNCW’s Writer’s Week, this year’s Thirsty Tome theme is “Where We Come From: Place, Memory, and Hidden History.” We will be hosting two events, a walking tour on November 11, 2021, and a Zoom panelist discussion on November 12, 2021.

  • Thirsty Tome is an annual event that celebrates writing and writers at UNCW, sponsored by Randall Library. This year’s theme is “Where We Come From: Place, Memory, and Hidden History” with two related events:

    • “Wilmington Beneath the Surface” Walking Tour of downtown Wilmington on Nov. 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. led by Kimberly Sherman of Ghost Hill press.

    • “Where We Come From” Zoom panelist discussion on Nov. 12 from 5-6:30 p.m. Panelists include National Book Award longlisted author and UNCW alum Jason Mott, Creative Writing Professor KaToya Fleming, and Public History Professor Kenneth Shefsiek who will touch on themes of what makes a home, what narratives are hidden within seemingly familiar places, and what we carry with us.
