Spread the love

LetssolveSummer is coming to an end and many of us are planning that Labor Day celebration with family and friends. As you are enjoying your holiday think about the programs that United Way impacts and reflect on these stories. Think of the children coming into Foster Care with nothing, as reported by DSS Caring for Kids, many small children come into care with only pajamas or a tee shirt.

Children came into care this past year from a home with a horrible odor and a bed bug infestation, therefore the children could not take any of their belongings into foster care. Your United Way funds are invested to provide for these children’s basic needs, food and clothing!

Last year Rice came to the Families First shelter as she was escaping a violent relationship in which she was regularly choked to unconsciousness and sexually assaulted. United Way funding made it possible for Rice to have a safe place to go!

The Girl Scouts are preparing for a new year with outreach programs to help girls in Bladen County with life skills. This year Girl Scouts will be in Tar Heel Middle School, Booker T. Washington Elementary, and will continue to serve girls at the Job Link Career Center with the financial literacy programs.

Through the community outreach programs girls in Bladen County are provided opportunities and experiences that they may not have access to at home or in the normal classroom environment. United Way funding helps to support these programs and change girls lives in Bladen County!

In addition to these programs United Way supports Bladen County 4-H, and Lower and Cape Fear Hospice in Bladen County. You could help these programs in addition to and many more in Bladen County!
