ELIZABETHTOWN — The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr celebration kicks off Thursday with Unity in the Community at Mt. Olive Community Center located at 361 Lewis Drive.

The five-day event opens each day at noon and is capped by the 34th annual MLK Day Parade on Monday, Jan. 16 through downtown Elizabethtown.

Among the activities during the Unity in the Community celebration are seafood night, cowboy day and gospel music. There is no charge to attend Unity in the Community, but donations will be accepted. For information, call Big Show at 910-391-6009 or 910-872-3451.

The parade, which honors the birthday of Dr. King, is set for 11 a.m. with the theme celebrating the 60th anniversary of his “I Have A Dream Speech.” Line-up for the parade will begin at 9 a.m. at 805 West Broad Street. Businesses, church, school and community organizations, bands, step-teams, drill teams, motorcycle clubs, masonic lodges, Shriners, veterans, queens and kings are invited to participate in the parade.
