February

February 6… The Elizabethtown Dixie Youth steak dinner will be held at Elizabethtown Primary School at 4 pm on February 6th. Steak plates are $10 each. Reverse raffle tickets are being sold at $50 each (2 steak plates and a chance to win $2000,$1000, $500). Questions or want to buy tickets call Rusty Hill 872-3369, or buy tickets at the door. There will also be a few auction items and pre-registration sign ups for children ages 5-12.

February 7… CWJC (Christian Women’s Job Corps) of Bladen County will be conducting Women Mentor Training at Tar Heel Baptist Church on Saturday, February 7, 2015, from 8:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Barbara Knight will be the Training Facilitator. Any born again Christian woman who would like to participate and become a mentor please call Jennifer Carter at 910-733-5497 or e-mail cwjc ofbladencounty@gmail.com. The deadline for registering is Wednesday, February 4, 2015. This training is focused on providing skill-based training, tools and resources for a CWJC Mentor. Women with a heart for mentoring women are welcome to join us. Your desire to serve God in this ministry will help rebuild families through God’s leadership and His Holy Word.

February 7… Saturday, February 7th- “He Cheated! Why Me?”, a LoWanda Davis Productions play being staged at Elizabethtown Middle School. Euclid Gray, who appeared in “Meet the Browns,” is among the cast members for Saturday’s performance.  Doors open at 4 p.m. with the show at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Feb. 9The next meeting of Compassionate Friends is Monday, February 9 at 7 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, 105 Madison Street, Whiteville.  Grieving parents, if you’ve experienced the death of a child, you, along with adult siblings and grandparents are invited to attend.  This month’s meeting will focus on our coping skills.  Chapter members affirm that When we get together, we help one another. Together we find strength and solace.  Together we discover that ‘We Do Not Walk Alone’.  For more information contact Jean Cross Burney at joanssister@hotmail.com.  Meetings are held the second Monday of every month.

February 12… Bladen County Public Library will host a “Kid’s Valentine’s Party” on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 6:30 P.M. Please call 910-862-6990 to register for this event in advance. A responsible guardian MUST accompany children to this event.

February 13…  The Office of Exceptional Children’s Services for Bladen County Schools​ is pleased to announce that the Goodwill Foundation is providing a training for parents of students with disabilities. Parents will learn the importance of, and how to keep up with, all the paperwork associated with having a child with special needs. Parents should bring to the training any paperwork, IEP’s, doctor’s reports, etc. The Goodwill Foundation is providing resource notebooks to participants who register for the training. The event will take place on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 10:00am until 12:00pm.  The location is the Bladen County Board of Education located at 1489 Highway 701 South, Elizabethtown, NC (across the street from Elizabethtown Middle School).

February 13… Good News Baptist Church Teens and Cherubs is hosting a Sweet Heart Steak Dinner on February 13th at the Bladenboro Historical Building, 4 pm to 7:30 pm.  Plates are $10 per plate.  READ MORE

February 14…  Fundraiser planned for the Burneys, Friends of Marvin and Marsha Burney are sponsoring a fundraiser at the Clarkton School of Discovery on Saturday, February 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  READ MORE

February 15… The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will be offering several free boating and hunting education courses this year. The classes are held each year and are free to the public. Boating education and hunting education will be 6 hour courses. We will be offering our first boating education class on February 15th from 1pm-7pm. It will be held at Jones Lake State Park.   READ MORE

February 22… Friendship Baptist Church will be hosting a study on the book of Revelations beginning Sunday, February 22 at 630 pm. This is a 5 week series and will be held each Sunday night at 630 pm. Dr. Bill Korver, President of Carolina Bible College will be leading the series. February 28th… The Dublin Festival Committee will sponsor their annual “All You Can Eat’ Oyster Roast & Fish Fry, Saturday, February 28th from 11 a.m. til 5 p.m. at the General Store at Lu Mil Vineyard.  Advance tickets are $35.  They will be $40 at the door.  Tickets are available from Peanut Festival members, Lu Mil Vineyard and Taylor MFG in Elizabethtown…Proceeds from all Dublin Festival Committee events benefit numerous local organizations in the area.  Support Local Events in YOUR Community.

March 14… A Spaghetti Plate Fundraiser with raffles and a silent auction for Kevin Nash will be held at the White Lake Fire Department on Saturday, March 14th, 11 am – 4 pm. Plates are $6.

First Thursday of the Month- Bladen County Shrine Club meets at the Woodman of the World building on Highway 242 just north of Elizabethtown on the first Thursday of the month. All members are encouraged to attend, including anyone interested in joining.

Second Monday at 6:30- Bladen Lodge 646 (AF & AM) meets at 106 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown on the 2nd Monday and 4th Monday night of the month. The meeting on the 2nd Monday starts at 6:30pm with dinner served. The meeting on the 4th Monday starts at 7:30pm.

Every Monday at 6:30- Bladenboro Rotary Club meets at the Bladenboro Community Building every Monday at 6:30pm.

Fourth Tuesday at 6 pm- The Bladenboro Housing Authority meets at 6pm in the Housing Authority Administration Office in Bladenboro on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Second Monday at 7:30 pm- Bladenboro Town Board meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:30 PM at Town Hall located at 411 Ivey Street.

First Monday at 6:30- Woodmen of the World Lodge 208 of Bladenboro meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 for dinner and a business meeting.  The lodge is located on Hwy 131 South of Bladenboro.

First Tuesday at 7 pm- Town Board meets at 7pm at the Town Hall on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

Three Times Per Week at 7:30 pm- Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings are held three times weekly. Tuesday and Friday meetings are held at Open Door Ministries (2704 East Broad Street/NC 87 E.
