A home in the Bay Tree Lakes community was destroyed by fire on Wednesday evening. No one was injured in the incident.

The home, a log cabin, was located at 596 Horsepen Drive. The home’s owner, Todd Karpinski, said, “I was home sitting in the living room watching tv when I heard a popping noise. I just thought it was my girlfriend coming home. A minute later the smoke alarms were going off.” He said he quickly got out of the house and called 911.

Karpinski said he and his girlfriend Trisha Switzer moved to Bladen County one year ago from New Jersey.  Karpinski said they lost all of their belongings in the fire.

Jim Crayton with the Bay Tree Lakes Fire Department said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Bay Tree Lakes and White Lake Fire Departments responded to the blaze.
