The North Carolina Department of Transportation has issued an update on Bladen County road closings and openings per Kenneth Clark. They are as follows:
OPENINGS:
Singletary Millpond Road is open.
Murray Haywood Road will open this afternoon (Thursday, August 3).
US 701 north of White Lake will open in the late afternoon on Friday, August 4th.
CLOSINGS:
US 701 North
US 701 north remains closed at Colly Creek in order to perform a scour repair to the box culverts that were damaged during Hurricane Matthew. The location is just south of Mote Road. While local traffic will be able to use Mote Road and NC 41 for access around the work site, the official detour route will be NC 41 and NC 210 in order to keep through trucks on routes with wider lane widths. The road will open late tomorrow afternoon.
Tobermory Road
Tobermory Road remains closed at NC 87 due to a failed crossline pipe / void under the road. Pipe replacement work has begun and is now expected to be complete by August 14th (encountered difficult soil conditions – causing delays in progress).
Sweet Home Church Road
Sweet Home Church Road is closed in order to replace a large bridge pipe located 2.82 miles east of Bladen Lakes School Road. The road will be closed through August 18th.
UPCOMING CLOSINGS:
None. NC DOT has postponed the Barry Lewis Road pipe replacement in order to put more resources on the Tobermory Road replacement.
ELWELL FERRY:
The Elwell Ferry is operating.
