NC Department of Transportation officials said the northbound lanes of the US 701 bridge spanning the Cape Fear River, are going to remain closed a while longer.

Bradley Kinlaw, Bladen County Emergency Management Director, said on Saturday that NC DOT officials informed him that crews are working to construct a lane shift for the southbound traffic lanes to reroute traffic off of the southbound bridge onto the northbound bridge.

Kinlaw said the reason for that is, DOT needs to bring in some equipment that will need to sit on the southbound bridge in order for work to remove a log jam at the bridge to commence. The southbound bridge will be closed until work to remove the log jam is completed.
