Congressman Robert PittengerThis afternoon, Congressman Pittenger’s FEMA/Small Business/Agriculture assistant participated in a conference call with FEMA. Following the call, Congressman Pittenger asked for the information to be distributed to local leaders.
* FEMA is providing 10 trailers per day (144,000 liter bottles per day) for 5 days to Lumberton. At present, the water is too high to go in and repair the water plant, but two subject matter experts from the US Army Corps of engineers have been mission assigned to assist and help locals “source repair” at the plant. Two subject matter experts from the Environmental Protection Agency will assist the locals with “chemical balance” at the plant.

* Currently, I-95 South is closed between exits 81-77 and also exits 56-13 in Robeson County. Exits 13-22 North are also closed.

* The Greenville airport will be closed until Sunday, Oct. 23rd. This is longer than originally predicted.

* Amtrak’s long distance service may resume tomorrow.

* Hazards remain. Rivers continue to rise. Flooding risk will continue through next week. Some rivers have not yet crested.

* Baptist Men and the Salvation Army are also assisting with meals in Fayetteville and Lumberton.

* 35 farms have been impacted and 1.9 million poultry are dead. That number is expected to increase.

* Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams are in Robeson and Cumberland Counties today, helping people register for assistance.

* Over 24,000 people have already registered for assistance and $6 million has been approved currently to address those claims. People that have not registered may do so by calling 1-800-621-3362.

* There is no charge for federal assistance through FEMA. If this occurs, please report the abuse to our office or to FEMA.

* FEMA is reaching out to hotels for help with Transition Shelter Assistance.

* The Small Business Administration has an assistance center open in Fayetteville to assist small businesses that were impacted by the Hurricane.

* USDA Farm Service offices in Scotland – Robeson, Edgecombe, and Lenoir Counties are closed but will open as soon as the waters recede enough to allow them to open. Impacted farms must go through their county office to file a claim.
