No charges will be filed in a crash that killed a pedestrian, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
According to Trooper Freeman, Ricky Gonzalez, 18, of Asheboro, was struck while he was walking in the northbound lane of US 701.
Trooper Freeman said Michael Casey Smith, 26, of Harrells, was driving north on US 701 and did not see Gonzalez, who was wearing dark colored clothing.
“The driver was on the scene at the time. There was never any question about who hit him,” said Trooper Freeman.
