Town of Elizabethtown Manager Eddie Madden reported late in the evening on Tuesday, December 3rd the U.S. Highway 701 bridge in Elizabethtown over the Cape Fear will be down to one lane on Wednesday.

Mr. Drew Cox with North Carolina Department of Transportation contacted Mr. Madden with plans to have equipment and personnel in place on Wednesday to inspect the southbound US-701 bridge. Traffic control will be in place to assist with the single lane traffic pattern tomorrow.

The NCDOT officials are not anticipating the southbound lane to need any further inspections after tomorrow, according to Mr. Madden. The inspection should start and end tomorrow, which will allow both lanes to re-open on the southbound bridge.

The northbound bridge on U.S. Highway 701 over the Cape Fear River in Elizabethtown has been closed since, Thursday, November 21 for inspections and it is estimated to re-open in Feburary 2020, according to Andrew Barksdale with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
