Stop by your neighborhood thrift store this afternoon and enjoy bargain hunting and celebrate National Thrift Shop Day. The day is celebrated nationwide each year on August 17th. Bladen County has several thrift shops filled with bargains waiting to be discovered.

In Elizabethtown there are two thrift stores. You can stop in at the Bladen Crisis Assistance Thrift Store located at 109 Martin Luther King Drive or stop by the Take a Second Look Thrift Store located at 1108 S. Poplar Street.

In Bladenboro, the WMU Thrift Store is located at 125 Main Street.

National Thrift Shop Day was created to call attention to thrift shops which are typically run by a charitable organization to raise money to be used in accord with the organization’s stated charitable purpose.

Thrift shops are a type of social enterprise that typically sell used goods that are donated by members of the public and are often staffed by volunteers.  Donation of the items being sold allows for a lower cost to the buyers.
