East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – East Columbus defeated East Bladen 3-0 Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference volleyball action by set scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-21.

Sophomore Katie Evans knocked in a pair of service points to tie the first set 9-9. Service points from juniors Ruth Ward and Gracyn Martin kept the Lady Eagles even at 14-14. The Lady Gators closed the set with an 11-3 spurt.

After East Columbus grabbed an early 6-1 lead in Set 2, junior Cybil Campbell rallied the Lady Eagles to within 6-5 with a trio of service points. Service points from Martin, sophomore Kayleigh Raynor and senior Sarah Johnson pulled East Bladen to within 15-12.

A pair of Raynor service points trimmed the East Columbus lead to 24-22, but a side-out ended the set.

Campbell started the third set with a pair of service points, and Martin smacked in a pair of service points to edge East Bladen in front 7-6. Two service points by Evans vaulted the Lady Eagles ahead 13-12.

Another Campbell service point extended the Lady Eagle lead to 15-13, but a 12-6 East Columbus run ended the match.

Junior Lorna Mendell pounded in 7 kills and 4 blocks to spark the East Bladen offense. Campbell led the Lady Eagle servers with 7 service points, 2 aces and knocked in 2 kills. Evans drilled in 6 service points and 3 aces.

Raynor hammered in 2 kills and 5 service points. Martin tallied 4 service points, and Johnson slammed in 3 kills and 2 service points. Ward hammered in 2 kills, an ace, a service point and had 2 digs. Junior Lila McDuffie added one kill.

East Bladen is scheduled to play at South Robeson Thursday, but Hurricane Michael could change the schedule.
