ELIZABETHTOWN – Unbeaten Midway halted East Bladen’s 6-match winning streak Tuesday night with a 3-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference volleyball victory over the Lady Eagles.

Midway broke a 4-all tie in the first set with a 13-3 run capped by a five-point service rally by Blair Baggett en route to a 25-19 win. The Eagles trimmed it to 24-18 late in the set on a pair of service points by Emma Turbeville.

The teams played on even terms throughout the second set before Midway pulled out a 25-23 decision. Trailing 22-18, East Bladen reeled off four straight points to tie it at 22-all and force Midway to call a time out. The Eagles took a 23-22 lead off a return by AnnaGrey Heustess, but Midway scored the final three points.

Midway scored the first point of the third set and never trailed. The Raiders raced to a 10-3 advantage and East Bladen never came closer than five for the remainder of the set in falling 25-14.

The Lady Raiders, the top ranked team in the East in the NCHSAA RPI standings, improved to 7-0 in SAC-7 play and 15-0 overall. The Lady Eagles are now 5-2 in the SAC-7 (both losses to Midway) and 8-5 overall. East Bladen is slated to visit Clinton Monday night.
