BLADENBORO – South Columbus won the final two sets and defeated West Bladen 3-1 Wednesday night in Three Rivers Conference volleyball action by set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-16 and 25-13.

The teams played in honor of West Bladen junior Nathan Nance who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Tshirts are currently being sold at West Bladen and a silent action was held during Wednesday games. All money raised will go to the CF Foundation of North Carolina – Sanford Chapter.

“Nathan struggles to breathe each day,” said Lady Knight Coach Gaye Davis. “We take our breathing for granted.”

West Bladen jumped out to early leads of 9-3 and 15-10, but South Columbus rallied to take the first set. The Lady Knights jumped in front early in the second set and eventually built a 23-16 lead before withstanding a Lady Stallion rally to even the match.

The two teams battled on even terms through the third set with ties at 12-12 and 14-14 before South Columbus pulled away. The visitors then took the fourth set and the match.

Senior Raegan Davis battled South Columbus’ tall frontline for 10 kills, 7 solo blocks, 5 aces, 8 service points and 2 digs. Junior Mikayla Meadows pounded in 9 kills, 7 solo blocks, 2 aces and 3 service points.

Senior Caroline Davis led the Lady Knight defense with 22 digs. Junior Lexie Corrothers spiked in 8 kills. Sophmore Sidnee Walters swatted in 5 service points, 3 kills and had 4 digs. Junior Jordan Benson was credited with a team-high 10 assists, 2 digs and 3 service points.

Tatiana Hunt racked up 13 digs, and sophmore Shelby Pharr slammed in an ace, a kill and 3 service points. Alana King finished with a service point and a dig.

The Lady Knights are now 7-7 in league play and 8-8 overall. West Bladen will host East Columbus Monday.
