East Bladen High SchoolROWLAND – For the second time this season, South Robeson edged East Bladen 3-2 in a marathon Three Rivers Conference volleyball match Saturday by set scores of 19-25, 24-26, 25-12, 29-27 and 15-12.

Sophmore Katie Evans opened the match with a pair of service points for the Lady Eagles, and junior Gracyn Martin knocked in 5 straight service points to keep East in front 10-7.

A trio of service points from sophmore Cheylee Mathis padded the Lady Eagle lead to 21-16, before Martin served out the set with a trio of service points.

Mathis fired in 5 straight service points to stake the Lady Eagles to a 12-6 lead in Set 2. A pair of service points from junior Cybil Campbell kept the margin at 16-10, and senior Sarah Johnson served out the set at 26-24 with a pair of service points.

Evans started the third set with a pair of service points, but the Lady Mustangs answered with a 15-3 run. Two service points from Martin trimmed the margin to 16-8, but South took the set to slice the East lead to 2-1.

Martin reeled off 6 straight service points in the fourth set to pull East to within 10-9. A 4-point service run from Johnson edged the Lady Eagles ahead 15-12. A trio of service points from junior Lila McDuffie inched East in front 24-23, before South claimed the set.

Campbell dropped in a pair of service points in the fifth set to bring East Bladen to within 4-3. Service points from Martin, Mathis and Campbell kept the Lady Eagles within 13-12, before the Lady Mustangs served out the match.

Johnson hammered in 9 kills, 10 blocks, 10 service points and an ace to lead the East attack. Martin racked up 17 service points, 5 kills and 4 aces. Mathis slammed in 10 kills, 10 service points, 5 aces and 2 blocks.

Campbell delivered 6 service points, 2 kills, an ace and a dig for East. Evans tallied 6 service points and 2 aces. McDuffie pounded in 3 kills, 4 service points and 2 aces. Junior Ruth Ward was credited with 3 digs and a kill.

Sophmore Kayleigh Raynor added one service points, and senior Abbie Cross smacked in a kill.

East Bladen will travel to Whiteville Monday.
