ELIZABETHTOWN – West Bladen defeated East Bladen 3-0 Saturday on Senior Night at East. The Lady Knights won the Four County Conference volleyball match by set scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-13.

Honored in ceremonies before the varsity match were Lady Eagle senior players Lexie Mendell, Anna Grace Long, Alexa Hernandez and Bethany Lesane and senior statisticians Emily Barnes and Karin Borgman.

Mendell captured the game’s first point with a kill, but senior Logan Autry answered with a service point for the Lady Knights, and senior Kassidy Anderson drilled in an ace for a 4-2 West lead.

Autry pushed across a winner, and sophmore Raegan Davis scored on a tip and a kill as senior Jenna Dove rang up 3 straight service points that put West ahead 8-3.

Mendell halted the spurt with a kill, but Dove blasted in a back-row kill, and Davis recorded 2 service points to keep the margin at 11-5. Anderson belted in a kill to win a service point for junior Patience Parker who then smacked in an ace for a 14-6 lead.

Junior Hannah Devane rallied East with a pair of service points, but Davis tipped in a winner, and senior Kaylee Stevens swatted in a kill to start a 3-point service run for senior Morgan Schumacher that included an ace for an 18-9 advantage.

Mendell’s block won a service point for Long, but a Davis tip led to a pair of service points for Autry and a 21-11 West lead. Lesane fired in an ace, but Anderson served out the set with 3 service points that included 2 aces.

Autry and Long traded service points to start Set 2. Davis tied the score with a kill, but Faith Johnson tallied 2 service points for East with the help of another Mendell block that put the Lady Eagles up 5-2.

Davis blistered the court with an ace and tacked on a service point with the help of a Schumacher kill that tied the score 6-6. Mendell hammered in a kill and a service point that vaulted East back on top 8-6.

Parker took charge for the Lady Knights with an 8-point service run that included an ace and was aided by 2 kills from Schumacher and one from Anderson.

With West up 15-8, Devane ignited an East rally with a pair of kills, and sophmore Ashley Hardin reeled off 3 straight service points that closed the gap to 15-12.

A Schumacher kill and a Dove service point were answered by service points from Devane and Lesane that kept the margin at 19-17. A reverse tap by Davis and a Schumacher block won a pair of service points for senior Kathryn Schultz that padded the lead to 22-17.

A Davis service point took the Lady Knights to set point at 24-18, but Long tipped over a winner to start a 3-point service run by Mendell that whittled the lead to 24-22. Schumacher slammed in a kill to end the set.

Autry delivered 6 straight service points to begin the third set aided by a Davis kill. Dove knocked in an ace that grew the lead to 10-2.

Mendell halted the West run with a pair of service points, but a Parker kill and a pair of Davis service points upped the count to 13-5. Schumacher’s kill made it 14-6.

Mendell hammered in a back-row kill to start a 3-point service run by Devane that was helped by a Long kill and narrowed the gap to 14-10. A pair of Schumacher service points was aided by an Anderson kill that padded the lead to 17-10.

Johnson’s service point pulled the Lady Eagles to within 17-12, but an Anderson kill and a pair of Autry service points stretched the lead to 20-12.

Mendell responded with a kill, but Autry pushed a winner into the far corner, and Schultz smashed in a kill to start an Anderson service run. Anderson then served out the match with 3 straight aces.

Autry led the Lady Knights with 12 service points and 2 kills. Davis filled the stat sheet with 7 kills, 6 service points and an ace. Anderson pounded in 6 aces, 2 service points and 4 kills.

Parker totaled 8 service points, 2 aces and a kill for the winners. Schumacher walloped in 6 kills, 4 service points, a block and an ace. Dove tallied 4 service points, an ace and a back-row kill.

Schultz finished with 2 service points and a kill for West, and Stevens added a kill.

Mendell topped the Lady Eagles with 8 service points, 4 kills and 3 blocks. Devane followed with 7 service points and a kill. Long contributed 3 service points and 2 kills.

Johnson and Hardin collected 3 service points each for East Bladen, and Lesane added an ace and another service point.

West Bladen evens their conference record at 6-6 and is 10-8 overall. West Bladen travels to Wallace-Rose Hill Monday night. East Bladen will close out regular season play at Clinton Monday.
