Junior Morgan Schumacher poured in 18 service points to lead West Bladen to a 3-0 non-conference volleyball victory over visiting West Columbus Thursday night by game scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-21.
Schumacher reeled off 11 straight service points in the second game to stretch a 10-9 West Bladen lead to 21-9. Schumacher also contributed 4 aces, 4 kills and 2 blocks.
Junior Kathryn Schultz fired in 9 service points, 6 kills and a block for the winners. Teammate Logan Autry filled the stat columns with 8 service points, 3 aces, 3 kills and 6 assists.
Junior Kassidy Anderson contributed 6 service points, 4 aces, 3 kills and 2 digs for the Lady Knights. Teammate Laikyn Pait drilled in an ace, a kill and 6 service points. Senior Lorna Smith knocked in 5 kills, 2 aces and 2 service points and had one dig.
The serving of Autry and Schumacher sparked the Lady Knights to a 7-1 lead in Game 1. Back-row attack points from Schumacher and Smith and service winners by Smith and Autry kept the lead at 18-13.
Autry tapped in 2 winners, and Smith tipped over another one as a pair of Pait service points pushed the lead to 21-13. A pair of Schumacher kills helped Schultz serve out the final 3 points of the game.
A winning return by Smith ignited a run of 5 straight service points by Schultz that staked the home team to a 7-3 lead in Game 2. West Columbus tied the game 9-9, but Schumacher pounded in a kill then reeled off the 11-point service run for a 21-9 lead.
Anderson whistled in a pair of aces to serve out the game.
Autry started Game 3 with a trio of service points that included an ace. Anderson and Pait spiked in winners, and Pait and Anderson recorded service points as the lead stayed at 9-5.
Schultz tipped in a pair of winners, and Smith cracked a service winner for a 13-9 lead. A Schumacher spike and another trio of service points from Autry kept the lead at 17-12.
An Anderson ace and a pair of Pait service points stretched the lead to 23-16.
Coach Gaye Davis’ Lady Knights evened their record at 2-2 and will host St. Pauls Tuesday night.
