WHITEVILLE – Whiteville defeated East Bladen 3-0 Tuesday night in the Lady Eagles Three Rivers Conference volleyball opener by game scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-9.

Whiteville built an early 8-1 lead, but senior Hannah Devane walloped in a kill to win a service point for senior Faith Johnson. Devane pushed across a winner, and sophmore Gracyn Martin smacked in a service point to trim the margin to 9-5. However Whiteville pulled away to win the first game.

Faith Johnson and senior Kaley Smith fired in service points to keep East within 6-3 in Game 2. The Lady Wolfpack widened their lead to 17-5, but Hardin pushed across a winner then ripped a return winner.

Devane slammed in two more kills to spark a run of 4 straight service points by Hardin that closed the gap to 17-9. Whiteville used an 8-4 run to end the game.

Two service points by Hardin and one by Johnson plus a Devane kill kept East Bladen within 12-7 in the third game, but a 13-2 spurt ended the match.

Devane pounded in 6 kills, and Hardin racked up 6 service points and 2 kills to lead the Lady Eagle attack. Faith Johnson finished with 3 service points, and Kaley Smith collected 2 service points. Martin added a service point.

The Lady Eagles will host South Columbus Thursday night.
