Volunteer your time for Giving Tuesday

By Erin Smith

Today is Giving Tuesday! The United States ranks No. 5 in the world in charitable giving according to the 2017 World Giving Index. North Carolina ranks No. 28 on the list of Most Charitable States in America and No. 20 in the United States for charitable giving and No. 35 for Volunteering and Service, according to the index.

Giving Tuesday occurs the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year and begins the season of charitable giving. Everyone is encouraged to take a moment to volunteer their time or make a donation to a local charity.

There are many ways you can give back such as building a wheel chair ramp for someone, visit someone in a nursing home, make a financial contribution to a charity of your choice, or volunteer your time to read a book to a class of students.

You can also share your story about how you spent your Giving Tuesday by snapping a picture and posting to social media using the hashtag #GivingTuesday. There are many more ideas and suggestions at www.givingtuesday.org.
