The Southeastern 2-A Conference and Waccamaw 1A/2A Conference high school basketball tournaments have been cancelled because of expected freezing rain in the region Wednesday.

West Bladen was scheduled to host the Southeastern Conference boys and girls semifinal games Wednesday and Thursday and the championship games Friday. The Southeastern tournaments opened Monday with first-round games that had victories by the Midway boys, St. Pauls boys, Red Springs girls and Clinton girls. The West Bladen boys won the regular season championship and drew a first-round bye. The West Bladen girls lost at Red Springs 39-28 in Monday’s opening round.

The Waccamaw Conference boys and girls tournaments were scheduled to open Tuesday night with three first-round games hosted by higher seeds, then move to West Columbus High School for the semifinals Wednesday and Thursday and championship games Friday. The East Bladen boys were scheduled to play at South Columbus on Tuesday. The East Bladen girls won the regular season championship and drew a first-round bye.

Also Tuesday, the N.C. High School Athletic Association that seeding for next week’s basketball playoffs will be held Sunday instead of Saturday because the weather will likely cause changes to schedules throughout the state this week.
