White Lake was a buzz of activity on Saturday morning with a triathlon, the Correct Craft Reunion, a craft show at Camp Clearwater and professional Wakeboarder Shaun Murray attempting a world record for riding behind the most Nautiques in a single day.

Murray’s world record attempt began at 9 a.m. at White Lake Marine as boaters lined up to take part in the event. Others gathered on piers and in nearby boats to watch Murray attempt his feat. Townsend Link announced the event and said there were 56 boats that had signed up to assist Murray. He attempted a trick called an invert behind each boat during his attempt.

Murray was excited as he prepared to leave the dock at White Lake Marine. He said it was about 10 years ago he was at White Lake teaching a wakeboarding class and noticed the large number of Nautiques on the lake.  He said at the time he thought it would be a great idea to see if he could set a world record riding behind the largest number of Nautiques in one day.

He added the number of Ski Nautitque boats operating on White Lake is interesting. “It is a very unusual amount of Nautiques in one location,” said Murray.

He said he has been one of Correct Craft’s athletes for a number of years and has been wakeboarding professionally for 20 years. He resides in Orlando, Fla. near the Correct Craft factory. Murray noted even in the Orlando area, there are not as many Correct Craft brand boats in the water as there are at White Lake.

When asked about his record attempt, Murray said, “I’m excited.” He has a crew documenting the effort and as there currently is no official record, Murray was hoping to set the bar very high.

“We’re trying to set the bar so high no one will try to break it,” said Murray.

The Nautique boats are all made by Correct Craft and the company has been family owned since 1925. In addition to being family owned, the company has always built its boats in Orlando, Fla and they are sold world wide.
