Congressman Robert Pittenger HeadshotCHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) is honored to announce that Cuthbertson High School senior Tony Giaimo has received a prestigious appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.

Mr. Giaimo speaks German, French, and Czech, is captain of his high school robotics team, and is active in the Civil Air Patrol, where he serves as the Cadet Commanding Officer.

“I continuously strive to become my best and have not yet obtained my maximum potential,” Mr. Giaimo told Congressman Pittenger.  “Attending the U.S. Air Force Academy will challenge me academically, physically, and mentally.  This challenge will help me develop my skills, attributes, and values, and enhance my ability to positively contribute to society.”

Mr. Giaimo is the son of Michael and Michaela Giaimo and lives in Waxhaw.

“Tony is an outstanding student who has worked for years to achieve his goal of attending the U.S. Air Force Academy,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “We are grateful for his commitment to serving America, and congratulate him on this prestigious appointment.”

Mr. Giaimo is the twelfth student from the Ninth Congressional District to receive a prestigious U.S. Service Academy appointment for the 2015-2016 academic year.  Additional appointments are expected this spring.

Local students interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy should plan to attend Congressman Pittenger’s Service Academy Day, scheduled for this Saturday (April 16th) at Charlotte Catholic High School, beginning at 10 a.m.  Local middle and high school students will hear from representatives of the five U.S. Service Academies, meet with local students currently attending a U.S. Service Academy, and discuss the rigorous nomination process with members of Congressman Pittenger’s staff.
