The event, “We are all one Humanity,” focused on celebrating the continuing dream of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event was held at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church drew a large crowd after the local parade. A hot dog lunch was served before Reverend Jerrod Lowry addressed the audience.

Mayor Sylvia Campbell attended the church’s event after being in the parade. When asked how long the church had been holding the annual event she said, “It’s been as long as we have been having the parade, I believe.”

Rev. Lowry said his presentation for the day was about, “Turning a dream of hope into a life of action.”

He explained, “It takes action. You have to commit to the dream you wish to see.”

As the saying goes, “You have to be the change you want to see in the world,” he pointed out.

Rev. Lowry began his ministry as General Presbyter and Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina this past fall. Ordained in 2006, he first served as pastor of St. Paul Presbyterian Church of Louisburg, NC, according to his introduction at the Church given by Elder Michael Aycock.

Elder Aycock also read scripture, “Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken,” from Isaiah 40:4-5 NIV

The service was sponsored by the Bladen Presbyterian Parish which is comprised of the Acme, Beth Carr, Central, Clarkton, Elizabethtown, Mount Horeb, Second, and White Plains Presbyterian churches of Bladen and Columbus counties.
