Flags flew at half mast on Monday in Bladen County in recognition of Patriot’s Day. This day has been set aside to remember the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.

In the attack, more than 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in NYC, at the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C., and in a plane crash near Shanksville, PA. Also, 400 police officers and firefighters lost their lives on that fateful day.

Patriot Day was set aside as a national day of service and remembrance for those that lost their lives when then-President George Bush signed a resolution on September 4, 2002 proclaiming September 11 as Patriot Day.
