THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED AN ICE STORM WARNING FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA AND NORTHEASTERN SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR FRIDAY, JAN. 21 INTO SATURDAY, JAN. 22.
Due to expected icy weather, poor driving conditions, and power outages in southeastern NC, UNCW will cancel classes on Friday, Jan. 21. Online Accelerated Program (OAP) students should consult with their instructors about how the inclement weather may affect their courses.
Starting at 6 a.m., Friday, Jan. 21, employees should observe Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather Policy (PDF). Employees involved in research should secure research areas in preparation for potential power outages.
Residential Students
Residential students are urged to use extreme caution when walking outdoors and when traveling up or down stairwells as they may be slippery in winter weather conditions. Housing and Residence Life will be salting high-traffic areas, staying indoors and only leaving if absolutely necessary is encouraged.

Student Health/COVID Information
The Student Health Center will close at 5 p.m. today and reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24. There will be no COVID testing on campus on Friday, Jan. 21. Other Events and Services
WAVE Transit is suspending operations on Friday and UNCW student shuttles won’t be operational.
The Student Recreation Center will be closed on Friday. However, it will reopen on Saturday if weather permits. The start time for Friday’s Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball contest between UNCW and James Madison has been moved to 2 p.m. For other updates from Athletics, visit uncwsports.com.
