The National Weather Service of Wilmington weekend outlook for today through Sunday, February 21 Periods of rain associated with a cold

front will continue today, finally moving offshore this evening as high pressure builds in from the west. Dry, sunny weather is expected Saturday and Sunday but below-normal temperatures will continue.

According to a report given on Thursday by Daniel Emerson with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers the W.O. Huske Lock located at 1248 Bill Hall Road in Fayetteville was peaking on Thursday at 51.35 feet with a slight recession due to recent moderate weather. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) the forecast shows another rise up to 51.6 feet this weekend due to the forecasted rain. 

According to the same report given by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Thursday, heavier rain forecasted in the lower Cape Fear Lock #2 located on Locks Road in Elizabethtown will rise 1.5 feet more than it was on Thursday. It looks like a peak will happen today, Friday, February 19 followed by a recession, and then due to more forecasted rain, it will rise again Monday afternoon.

NWS of Wilmington posted today, Clouds and periods of rain will continue today, with an additional one-tenth to one-half inch of rain expected. Highs will only reach the 40s with wind chills in the 30s. Thankfully sunshine returns for Saturday! 

After a drive around the mother county today while surveying the flooding, several citizens have expressed concerns about flooding. One resident at White Lake said they feel the flooding may be worse than during Hurricane Florence.
