WASHINGTON – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) is honored to announce that Weddington High School senior Luke Hardy has received a prestigious appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.

Mr. Hardy is an Eagle Scout, a member of three distinct honor societies, and volunteers for programs that provide sports opportunities for children with disabilities.

“The Boy Scout Oath states, ‘as an American I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the scout law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight,” said Mr. Hardy.  “I believe that attending the United States Air Force Academy would allow me to strengthen the values I have embodied through obtaining the Eagle Scout rank.  This opportunity would enable me to reach my full potential and in turn give back to the country that has provided me with so much.”

Mr. Hardy is the son of Gail Hardy and Elton Hardy.

“Congratulations to Luke on two tremendous achievements, becoming an Eagle Scout and receiving a prestigious appointment to the United States Air Force Academy,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “One of the best parts of my job is helping outstanding young men and women like Luke achieve their dream of serving our country.  If you or a student you know are interested in applying to the Air Force Academy, West Point, or Navy, please call my office to learn more about the rigorous nomination process.”

Mr. Hardy is one of eleven local students to receive a United States Service Academy appointment for the 2017-2018 academic year.

On April 14th, Congressman Pittenger will host two events to help local students learn more about the U.S. Service Academies, admissions requirements, and the rigorous nomination process:
