Forecasters say there’s a possibility of some snow accumulation and freezing rain in Bladen County this weekend.

One thing is for certain. It’s going to be bitterly cold with wind chills expected to hover around 10 degrees Sunday night.

How much snow or freezing rain we’ll see will be determined by the track of a low pressure system and the arrival of artic air, says Steven Pfaff of the National Weather Service.

Precipitation is expected to begin as rain late Friday afternoon before changing into a wintry mix Friday night, Pfaff said. It will take longer for the changeover to occur at the coast, thus limiting snowfall amounts. Precipitation is expected to come to an end Saturday night.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service had not issued any winter weather watches, warnings or advisories for Bladen County.

The highest amounts of snowfall is expected to occur north of a line from Florence, S.C. to Elizabethtown to Wallace, Pfaff reported. Bladen County may get 1 to 2 inches of snow, although sleet may limit the amount of accumulation in some areas.

By Saturday, snow is more likely after 8 a.m. and a high temperature of 34 is expected, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will dip to 18 Saturday night with about a 50 percent chance of snow. The wintry mix is expected to be gone by Sunday morning, but the high again will only reach 34 and the low Sunday night is expected to be 14. Single-digit wind chill values are expected Sunday morning and Monday morning.
