Drilling has begun for a well at the future site of the Sally Salter Park in Elizbethtown. The location is on the vacant lot on Swanzy Street beside the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market. The lot has been used by the town in the past as overflow parking for events held at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market.
At a meeting in December, the Elizabethtown Town Council learned that the site meets the criteria for a well site, as well as a park. Rod Fritz presented plans to the board in December regarding the proposed well and park. Plans call for the well house to look like a minuteman statue or a clock tower instead of a typical well house. The items that will be used to disguise the well house can be easily removed to allow access to the well if needed.
The proposed plans for the Sally Salter Park also include community gardens, a walking trail and green space.
