RED SPRINGS – Junior Kyla Reed slugged a 2-run home run to cap a 3-run fifth inning that carried West Bladen to an 11-9 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over Red Springs Wednesday night.

West Bladen was the home team because the game was switched to Red Springs due to wet conditions at West Bladen. The Lady Red Devils tied the game 8-8 in the top of the fifth, before the Lady Knights answered with the decisive rally.

Sophmore Shelby Pharr reached base on an error to start the West Bladen fifth. Junior Kasee Singletary’s sacrifice bunt plated Taylor Lewis, the courtesy runner for Pharr, with the go-ahead run. Junior Tatiana Hunt walked, before Reed hammered her 2-run homer over the leftfield fence.

Red Springs trimmed the margin to 11-9 in the sixth, but Pharr pitched a 1-2 3 seventh inning to secure the win. For the game Pharr allowed 9 runs – 4 earned – on 10 hits and no walks while striking out four.

Reed finished 2-2 at the plate with the 2-run homer and 4 runs scored to lead the West hitters. Senior Conner Brisson, Singletary, and freshmen Hannah Pait and Lauren Pait connected for one hit each.

Brisson and Hannah Pait scored 2 runs each, and junior Alara Cashwell, Hunt and Lewis scored one run each. Singletary drove in 2 runs, and Cashwell and Hannah Pait drove in one run each.

Reed cracked a single to centerfield in the first inning, Brisson was hit by a pitch, and Hannah Pait walked. All three of them darted home on wild pitches as West Bladen grabbed a 3-0 lead. Red Springs scored 3 runs in both the second and third innings to take a 6-3 lead.

Reed was hit by a pitch, and Brisson and Cashwell drew walks to begin the Lady Knight third inning. Reed dashed home on a wild pitch, and Hannah Pait ripped a single to left that scored Brisson. Cashwell scored, sophmore Alyssa Suggs walked, and Singletary’s bunt single scored Hannah Pait for a 7-6 West lead.

Reed led off the fourth with a walk, stole 2 bases and scooted home when Cashwell launched a sacrifice fly to centerfield to pad the Lady Knight lead to 8-6.
