West Bladen’s Dream Team is raising money for fellow student Ja’Na Sims, a West Bladen freshman who is battling Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Dream Team is a group of senior athletes who are chosen because of their character and leadership on and off the field. Dream Team is sponsored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Their advisor is West Bladen Volleyball Coach Gaye Davis.

This year the Knights Dream Team has taken on supporting Ja’Na and her family as their project for the year. They have been selling t-shirts and will begin raffling off different types of baskets and a pullover next week.

They have lined up several different days to honor Ja’Na. March 17th will be Ja’Na day.  Students will be allowed to wear their green Ja Na shirts.  March 13 will be hat day.  For $1 students can wear their hats.  March 25 will be the day for the basket drawing and pullover drawings.  Anyone is invited to donate to this cause.  All proceeds from the project will go to the family for medical expenses, travel expenses and food.

West Bladen’s Dream Team has 20 members this year and they have already been busy. They have attended an all-day orientation training on mentoring, tutoring and role modeling.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, these athletes go to Dublin Primary School where they assist teachers, media and the office staff with their students.  These athletes form life-lasting bonds with these kids and show these kids attention they may not ever see at home. The Dream Team members help read, do Math, and Science, or sometimes they are just there to support the kids.
